Mike, Rosie and their son, Matt are well known right across the south west
for their songs, tunes, ceilidh bands and singing both individually and collectively. Bodmin Folk Club is pleased to welcome them to give us a showcase.
Tell us about yourselves we said .. so ..
We arrived in the West Country in 1988 after having holidayed here for many years and stayed both in YHA hostels (thanks Mike & Sandra Freemantle & Dave Greenough) and camping at festivals.
Mike was born in Croydon and comes from a Sussex/Surrey family where singing traditional and more modern songs were the ‘norm’ at family gatherings. During the folk revival of the 60s he soon found a home in local folk clubs and after moving to the Sussex coast he joined Sompting Village Morris where he met and later married Rosie who became Foreman/Squire of the Morris side and started singing, inspired by Shirley Collins and Martyn Wyndham-Read amongst others. Rosie was born in Sussex, as was her son Matthew, who has been an accomplished musician from an early age and progressed onto diatonic button accordion after playing piano accordion for the Morris. After moving with the family to the Westcountry he started playing as the main musician with Fox Amongst the Chickens barn dance band and later with Flash Jack shanty singers together with Mike & Rosie
A great night is guaranteed.
We meet in an upstairs room but there is a stairlift if required. We do a great line in tea and coffee but byo drinks as there is no bar.
